Death and Dying

Alright people. Let's get one thing straight here. We are playing in a fantasy world, but if there's something terminal, it's some cases of stupidity and death.

On my previous campaign, some things were rather sketchy, and I would expect as much since it's a self-world and I'm not only still cutting links to the previous setting, but also tying up the loose ends of everything, including monetary system and booster availability. In this sense, whenever someone died, they'd be back on their feet in a few moments, after a minor XP loss. And I find this ridiculous: death stops having a meaning for you and for me, and unless I remove someone physically to Hell (and I did, at a point) or make up conditions in which people can't be brought back, you don't really give a shit about character loss. C'mon... you know this makes your victories rather meaningless as well.

So in this sense, these are the new rulings for character death. Read, memorize, copy-paste if you want so you'll know when you're in trouble. I will be adamant about these, and keep in mind that if PCs can be brought back easily, so can NPCs, so can fiends. And if gaming taught us something is that it's a pain in the crack having to kill the same person over and over again.

- Conditions for Resurrection -
  • Character died less than 24 hours ago.
  • Character has 70% of its body present, in one piece and in working condition. (someone who died in a fire is probably going to be found whole, but his body is charred and cannot be used) This must, of course, include the head.
  • Character is of a faith. (and thus must be brought back through the church of his or her faith, usually by donating a sum in money to said church)
  • If the character is not of a faith, some temples will still provide ressurection services, at a price. Namely: Zivilyn (a number of XP points or lifespan years spent by those who wish to ressurrect him), Sirrion (another service, like a pilgrimage), Hiddukel (a heavy sum in money) and Chemosh. (by providing someone else who will die in the subject's place) These ressurrections are frowned upon by Good-aligned churches, and as such, bringing back a Good character like this can result in excommunication.
  • Spells like Wish, Resurrection and True Resurrection still go by their regular ruling. Of course these can be done by PCs, but most temples don't have anyone willing or able to perform these spells. You don't find 15th level clerics on eBay. First and second laws still apply, as well as a possibility of excommunication
